Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2026. This page explains what we collect, why, who handles it, and the choices you have over it — plainly, without the boilerplate.
The short version
You can read GetCoreTech without an account. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't share what you give us with advertisers. Optional analytics only run if you accept them. If you create an account or subscribe to the newsletter, we store the details needed to provide those things, and you can delete your account or unsubscribe at any time.
What we collect, and why
- If you create an account: your email address, and what you do while signed in — saved articles, likes and reactions, followed categories, comments you post, notifications, and a reading history of articles you've opened (so we can offer "continue reading"). This is stored against your account and is only used to run those features.
- If you subscribe to the newsletter: your email address, and the page and placement on the site where you signed up (so we know which sign-up forms work). You can subscribe without an account. A link in each email lets you unsubscribe.
- If you contact us: the name, email address and message you send, so we can reply. Error reports sent through the contact form may also appear, without your name or email, in our public corrections log once resolved.
- If you use other forms: a note you send on an article ("pushback") is stored with your account. A glossary term request is anonymous; we store only the term and any context you type.
- Poll votes: a vote is stored so each reader counts once. Signed-in readers are identified by their account; everyone else gets a random ID, stored in a cookie, with no name or email attached.
- Anonymous reading counts, for everyone: each article keeps a running total of views and of average time spent reading. These are plain counters added to the article. They are not linked to you, your account or your device.
- Technical data: like any website, our host receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page. We also use your IP address briefly to limit abuse, such as repeated sign-up, contact or comment submissions. We don't use it to build a profile of you.
- Referral links: if you sign up through a link that carries a referral tag, we record which tag brought you.
Cookies and local storage
Essential items keep the site working, and can't be turned off individually because the site wouldn't function properly without them: the sign-in session if you have an account, the random ID that stops a poll counting your vote twice (kept for up to a year), and your light/dark theme and cookie choice, which are stored in your browser's local storage.
Analytics are optional. If you accept them in the cookie banner, we load Vercel Analytics to understand which articles get read and where visitors come from, and we measure how fast pages load and respond (Core Web Vitals). The speed measurements are stored with the page address and the timing result only, with no identifier. If you decline, or simply don't answer, none of this loads.
Who handles your data
We don't sell or rent your data. These providers process it on our behalf:
- Supabase — authentication, database and file storage for accounts, comments, saves, newsletter subscribers and messages.
- Vercel — hosts the site, and provides analytics only if you accept them.
- Resend — sends our emails: newsletter confirmations, digests and issues.
These providers may process data in countries other than your own. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to respond and to keep an accurate record of reported errors. Anonymous counters and speed measurements are kept as aggregate statistics.
Your choices
- Analytics: accept or decline in the banner on your first visit. To change your mind later, clear this site's local storage in your browser and the banner will reappear.
- Download or delete your data: from your account page you can export your data and delete your account. Deleting it removes your profile, saves, likes, comments, reading history and notifications.
- Newsletter: unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of any email. Deleting an account doesn't unsubscribe you, because a subscription isn't tied to having an account, so unsubscribe separately if you want both gone.
- Anything else: to ask what we hold about you, or to correct or remove something, email privacy@getcoretech.net.
Children
GetCoreTech is written for adults, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or how, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
