The usual forms are patching, changing a configuration, restricting access, replacing or removing the system, and adding a compensating control when a fix is not possible yet. A decision to accept a risk, recorded with an owner and a date, is also a legitimate outcome.

Remediation is not finished when the change is made. It is finished when you have verified that the weakness is gone: the fixed version is running, the vulnerable path is closed and a test or scan agrees. If the weakness may have been exploited before the fix, remediation also includes looking for signs of compromise.

Teams that stop at the ticket being closed often discover later that the fix never took effect, for example because a service was not restarted.

Assign each finding an owner and a due date, require evidence of the fix, re-scan afterwards and keep the record.
