NAND flash stores data without power. It is what sits inside solid-state drives, phones, memory cards and USB sticks. Manufacturers pack more storage into the same area by stacking cells in layers, and the number of layers is a common marker of how advanced a product is.

NAND follows its own cycle, separate from DRAM, and the product range is wide, from consumer storage to enterprise drives. Enterprise SSDs, built for data centers, carry higher prices and margins than consumer products, so the mix of what a maker sells matters as much as the price of any one chip.

SK hynix said its NAND average selling price rose in the mid-20% range from the second to the third quarter of 2026, while bit shipments slipped slightly as it concentrated on high-value products such as 321-layer enterprise SSDs. It plans to raise its 321-layer share to more than 50% of its domestic NAND capacity in the fourth quarter and expects NAND bit shipments to rise in the mid-single-digit range. Executives said that AI services which store large amounts of context data, known as KV cache, are creating new demand for SSDs.

Separate enterprise from consumer NAND when you read prices, and check whether growth comes from volume or from a richer product mix.
