An operating system or application compiled for ARM64 uses a different machine-code instruction set from one built for AMD64. Cloud servers, development laptops and container platforms can all use ARM64 hardware.

Software packages and container images are often architecture-specific. A vendor may publish an ARM64 build and an AMD64 build under related names or through a multi-platform image. The two variants still need to receive and deploy the required security updates independently.

This matters when checking PHP vulnerabilities. A patch available for one architecture is not automatic evidence that the matching package for another architecture has been installed or is covered by the same build identifier.

Record architecture along with package version, release and image digest. Choose compatible images, verify the vendor's fixed build for ARM64 and confirm that the running workload uses that artifact.
