The acceptance rate is the share of eligible people who accept an offer. For a voluntary retirement or exit program, it is the number who take the package divided by the number who were eligible.
The rate is hard to predict, and it depends on how generous the offer is, how the job market looks, and who is eligible. A rate seen in one program does not carry over automatically to another, especially if the eligible groups differ.
Microsoft's voluntary retirement program in April 2026 reached roughly 9,000 longer-tenured US employees, and more than 30% accepted, according to reports based on Bloomberg. Microsoft said it expects a smaller share to accept the October offer, which has no age or tenure requirement, and no acceptance total has been announced. One outlet, Xenospectrum, illustrated that a 30% uptake of the 60,000 eligible would mean 18,000 departures, but that is arithmetic and not a forecast.
Use acceptance rates from earlier programs as a reference only, and wait for the company's own figures before estimating how many people will leave.
